From a customer's P&ID to a fabrication quote and invoices

An operator sends a fabricator a scanned P&ID and asks for a price to build the skid. This demo reads the drawing (symbols from the job's own legend sheet, then tags, tables and line numbers), fills the equipment, valve, instrument and line lists, and turns them into the fabricator's response: material take-off, cost, schedule, a quote with clarifications, a check of the customer's PO, and milestone invoices. Every extracted value carries its evidence; every commercial number traces back to an extracted row or a stated assumption. Shop prices, rates and lead times are invented for the demo.

  1. Read the legend sheet
  2. Find symbols
  3. Read tags, tables, line numbers
  4. Fill the lists
  5. Take off materials
  6. Estimate and schedule
  7. Quote with clarifications
  8. Check the PO
  9. Invoice by milestone

What the symbol stage shows

  • The legend sheet has 45 symbols; 29 are not on this drawing. None of them were reported, so the reader is choosing among lookalikes (gate vs ball valve, flanges vs orifice plate), not just finding shapes.
  • OCR slips on the legend ("SKIO UMIT", "CORIOUS METER") still map to the right symbol class.
  • Vessels and nozzles are found by other stages (shape and text rules), not by legend templates.
  • Built and tuned on one synthetic drawing. A few real drawings are needed before quoting accuracy.

Extracted lists

Amber values have low confidence and go to review. Empty cells were not read: line From/To and instrument connections need the line-tracing stage, which is not built yet. Hover a value for its evidence.

What can be automated in a fabricator's response

The steps a fabricator takes between receiving an operator's P&ID and getting paid, and how much of each this kind of system can do. People keep the decisions that carry liability or commercial judgment.
